Michael Hulme is Hon Professor at Lancaster University where he is a member of the University Development Board. He holds an MPhil in Critical Management, also from Lancaster. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Member of the Market Research Society. At Lancaster University Michael is associated with the CeMoRe Centre for Mobilities Research where his particular interest is the mobility of information, data use, privacy/access and mobile technologies. He is Director of the Social Futures Observatory, an independently funded 'Think Tank' that seeks to understand and anticipate broader social change both today and in to the future. Michael has spent in excess of a 13 years studying the impact of digital technologies and increasing mobility on societal change and personal behaviour, in the course of which he has advised many leading Global technology and media organisations.
Michael combined an academic and commercial career, with a background in corporate finance before moving in to marketing and then strategy in the computer industry. Later he combined being an independent entrepreneur founding, developing and selling companies in the consultancy, mobile communications and research sectors, with being a Board member of several Plcs. He Chaired a North West Based holding company for a European funded Equity and Loan Investment Fund, and Chaired several organisations involved in the regeneration of North West business and infrastructure.
